la reminds me of liming with billy

(May 2022. Another decentralized poem with Billy on his porch in LA. First two stanzas are me, last two Billy.)

la reminds me of liming with billy
scooting the dark and light
streets of la wide open
to swerve and play
commuting in paradise

the people outside whole foods
mostly ignored me
too busy to sign a petition.
shits tough when people don’t treat you human
by the way,
black people carried way over their weight
signing my petitions left and right
and good we should support native tribes
and raise the minimum wage
and maybe even fund pandemic prevention research

la reminds me of the
woman lighting her shoes on fire/ and slapping them out/
again and again as, like in an uncomfortable movie/ bells toll

selfish hoarding as deprived my neighbors are in need god’s mercy and me
do nothing
but sit here and eat and judge them
