incompleteness

(May 2022. Decentralized poem co-written with Spencer Chang of Verses on a shared phone note.)

to bring something into the world—
from where?
and how emanate these hands,
how these eyes fill space,
crystallized?

to be someone in this world—
for whom?
does my ragged breath lie
when it declares independence
immortalized?

alone in this bed sheetless
i hold warmth as loose wrappings
and buffer my heat
from the suck of the night

reminded of the warmth
of your hand,
fleeting touch
like a star fizzling across the sky

for want of something
i am blessed with
incompleteness
