(May 2022. All Harvard students know Weeks Bridge, the footbridge over the Charles River. It has many purposes for many different groups. It is quite fun to jump off of. And, after graduation, it is where students meet for senior sunrise, of which I’ve now had multiple due to Covid funkiness. For me, it was the best place around to watch the sunset.)
Weeks Bridge
How long the life of this most winding river
The width the span of the Weeks?
This bridge the transverse bar of the present,
From which we watch the water wander
And wonder what passes below now,
The what when and why of this point in the flow
Where one is aware there all where’s go.
I know sitting here, not minding the time,
How this present moment and eternity rhyme.
How fine this line grows slowly, endless rectangles
Integrating this lengthening lifetime of mine—
The calculus of experience, volume of life lived
Under the current of my river…
These moments… The limit—
Infinite
