peach of the desert

(November 2022. For Peach.)

peach of the desert

to see the sun bared to me
by the thinness of your skin
was to want more than a dare

and when the bows of your tree
bent to me in soft darkness
through all doors into my bed
like gravity without question
knowing my answer to you is to savor
you waking me up with more than a yes
like a falling, like the juicy sweetness
of a last first bite,
wet tongue and flesh one

and do you remember melting together
like heat in awe of ultraviolet poetry
words burned into wood warm
the press of our bodies glowing

and do you remember
my blood dark and wet floating
in the dryness of the white stardust
desert where man must burn
so far from where fruit grows
in the halo of the angels between
desert mountains and ocean
where the contrast of blood and dust
is not so obvious and peaches grow

and do you remember our secret oasis
peach do you remember
how it felt to be tasted
