Asheville

(June 2023. Collaborative poem Luca and Aidan. Visited Luca and Cameron in Asheville, had always wanted to visit this place. Beautiful lush rainforest. Luca was the first person I ever wrote a decentralized poem with as an experiment (see https://beatinpaths.com/2022/01/13/heaven-is-above-the-bowl/) so it was fun to reconnect with him and write more poems as we’ve both improved. And improve we did— I think the poems we wrote in Asheville were our best yet. My lines are “Wink-midnight” “Mist-sequoias” “From-spirits”.)

Asheville

Percolation. In a trickle of time it sleeps.
Wink of morning a firefly flash in wet midnight
and a languorous twist enripens the forge of seeds.
Mist and fire bleed into life— so stand the sequoias.
Wide and thick billow the mists, determined
without ecstasy
to LIFT.
From the holler, valley, velvety trees carpeting the mountain
of endless broccoli alveoli rise ancestral spirits
with whispers of dawn.
